Once upon a time...

You may be surprised to see that the video below is not Isaac! :)

My mom stumbled upon this little jewel of a video online several months ago, and it's so adorable. It's a little French girl with an untamed imagination, telling her mother a story that she is making up as she goes along.

If you have a few spare minutes, it's so worth it.

The little girl speaks French, but the video has English subtitles.

Since I'm speaking French to Isaac, do you think he'll one day tell stories like her?

Ever wonder why I'm speaking French to Isaac?

I started taking French in the third grade in Louisiana, and the French language and culture is definitely one of my passions.
When I was pregnant with Isaac, I read two books on bilingual babies, and Jacob and I decided that I should try to speak only French to Isaac. It wasn't a decision that we took lightly. I struggled with questions like, "Since Jacob and Christian don't speak French, will this put a divide in our family?" and "Will this make Isaac struggle with English?" These questions still come to mind occasionally, but overall, we decided we'd probably regret it if I didn't at least give it a try.
So, I speak French to Isaac as much as possible. It's definitely good for me because it keeps me learning... you just don't learn things like "drool" and "baby bib" in a textbook!
So, I'm learning a lot, but it's still left to be determined what Isaac thinks of it all... we'll have to see what he says first, "Mommy" or "Maman."
