Straight to the Mouth

Anonymous said...: For the first time, I see Christian in Isaac! In the picture titled: "What?! What's wrong with that?" His expression is very much like one his big brother would make! Something about the shape of the mouth...and his expression around the eyes....

Ever wonder why I'm speaking French to Isaac?

I started taking French in the third grade in Louisiana, and the French language and culture is definitely one of my passions.
When I was pregnant with Isaac, I read two books on bilingual babies, and Jacob and I decided that I should try to speak only French to Isaac. It wasn't a decision that we took lightly. I struggled with questions like, "Since Jacob and Christian don't speak French, will this put a divide in our family?" and "Will this make Isaac struggle with English?" These questions still come to mind occasionally, but overall, we decided we'd probably regret it if I didn't at least give it a try.
So, I speak French to Isaac as much as possible. It's definitely good for me because it keeps me learning... you just don't learn things like "drool" and "baby bib" in a textbook!
So, I'm learning a lot, but it's still left to be determined what Isaac thinks of it all... we'll have to see what he says first, "Mommy" or "Maman."
