Cinnamon Rolls

So, I came upon this recipe for homemade, from-scratch cinnamon rolls, and the recipe sounded awesome. It's only been fairly recently that I look at a recipe and decide if it sounds like a good food combination or not... I used to determine that based on the length of the ingredient list... too many ingredients meant way too complicated and was therefore rejected. However, that was then, and this is now, and this holiday season, I was excited to tred unchartered territory with homemade cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning.
I knew the recipe made a LOT of cinnamon rolls when it called for 1 quart of whole milk!!! We are huge fans of the dairy products sold by the local Mennonite community, so I added whole milk and *real* butter to my list for Monday's weekly trip to the milk stand.
The trickiest part was cutting the cinnamon rolls evenly when you have a couple of rolls that are about two feet long! I called Jacob in for back-up, and next thing I know, he is measuring with a measuring tape and making marks where the roll needs to be sliced. (A tape measure in my kitchen, that was a first!)

Here are four of the trays of baked cinnamon rolls before the icing went on...
we ended up with 6 trays or 48 cinnamon rolls! I was so surprised that they turned out looking like "real" cinnamon rolls... they looked so ugly when they were going into the pans, but they really puffed up and filled out.

The icing was amazing. It's maple-flavored, and the recipe called for coffee too, but I left the coffee out. And if that isn't proof of how much I love my husband, then I don't know what is.

Christian tried them out on Christmas Eve morning while watching Elf.

He said they were yum, yum, yummy!

We wrapped up the cinnamon rolls and gave them to Jacob's family when they came over on Christmas Eve to have for Christmas morning, and we have two trays left over in our freezer. Jacob just spotted them last night and was more than a little excited to see that we have some left over!
