Christian's birthday party

We picked up three of Christian's friends on the Friday night following his birthday around 5pm for a sleepover.

We headed to Asahi, a Japanese steakhouse that Christian has been curious about since we moved to Jackson.

We got there early to beat the Friday night crowd.

None of the boys had been there, so they were all pretty excited.

As we waited for our table, they watched one of the chefs in action at another table.

It's one of those restaurants where the chef cooks your food right in front of you at the table. See the griddle?

The chef had lots of fire and tricks, so I think they were pretty impressed.

The boys all tried using the chopsticks.

It was a lot of food, and they all ate a lot!

When we got home, the boys played football and soccer in the back yard.

Eventually, they came in for birthday cake.

If you heard about the nightmare of a birthday sleepover we had last year for the 9th birthday, you're probably as surprised as we were that we agreed to do it again. This year, we carefully chose boys that were family friends, and that made all the difference. These boys were all pleasant, and we all had a great time!

When Jacob went in Christian's room at 11pm to tell them they needed to get to sleep (the lights were already out, but they were still talking), they were talking about underwater torpedoes on submarines. Jacob turned on his heel and came back and told me what they were talking about and that he'd decided to just let them keep talking about submarines. I think he was reminded about how last year (at the 9 year old birthday) the other boys were talking about how many girls they liked, kissing girls, etc... and Jacob was just so grateful for the boys we had over this year and the fact that they were just being boys talking about submarines!
