Christian's Field Trip

May 3, 2008
Land Between the Lakes - The Homeplace

For Christian's end-of-the-year field trip, we visited a mid-19th century farm called "The Homeplace." There are houses, barns, animals...
even tour guides dressed from the time period!

Our first stop was the gift shop...

This is Christian with one of his friends...
together they represent both ends of the size spectrum for 9-year-olds!

Christian tries on a hat in the gift shop...

and in true nine-year-old fashion, he turns a cute picture into this.

We saw pigs!

Christian listened very intently to our tour guide.

He did not like the smell of the drying tobacco!

After we visited the homestead, we ate our picnic lunch near this creek.

As the teachers starting rounding everyone up to leave,
I noticed Christian running around picking up trash.
What a good boy!
Of course, he may have just been stalling to leave! :)

Christian's field trip brought back memories of my own 5th grade trip to Fort de Chartres in IL. Mandy, you may find it interesting to know the area was settled by the French thinking it was a hotbed for metals and furs. At the time all I cared about were the really big lollypops in the gift shop...and the rabbit pelts.
